I ventured down to Victoria this weekend in search of all those Victorian
specialities; and indeed most were in position and on display (except those
blasted Fairy Terns, when will I ever get to see one?), and an added bonus
at Werribee were 2 Pectoral Sandpipers and one Long-toed Stint all in the
same telescope view.
Anyway the most unusual thing I saw was at Glenaire on the Great Ocean Road.
here in country cleared in the valley bottoms, but with native forest on the
hills I saw a white morph Grey Goshawk, but it was sitting on a fence post,
looking out over a paddock, at least 200 meters from the nearest tree. Has
anyone ever seen this behaviour before on the part of this species? was it
just resting and thinking 'So this is what the world looks like to a Brown
Falcon?' or was it trying to hunt? (I had a car on my tail and there was no
where to stop, by the time I turn off, tunred round and went back it had gone).
