I think John probably covered this admirably when he summed up the 
megapode discussion, but I thought it worth mentioning anyhow.

I'm currently reading Penny van Oosterzee's excellent book on Alfred
Russell Wallace and his line (great reading so far).  In chapter 2 she
deals with megapode biogeography, and quotes Jones et. al (1995) thus: 

"... megapode distribution seems to be more affected by the presence of 
carnivores than any biogeographic barrier ...".
