The 1997 RAOU Congress will be held at the Albury campus of Charles Sturt
University on 4-5 October. (Albury is on the Hume Highway, on the NSW side
of the Murray which is the border with Victoria). The major theme will be
woodland birds but papers and posters on any topic of ornithological
interest are invited. Paul Ryan is program convenor; contact him about your
ideas for papers by mail c/- the RAOU, 415 Riversdale Rd, Hawthorn East,
Victoria 3123, or by email
(Readers of birding-aus will realise that like birding-aus itself (and
Russell Woodford, and me), Paul depends on Deakin for his electronic mail,
which may be as fragile as birding-aus has been in the last couple of
months. So if you send a message to Paul and don't get an answer, try
again, he may never have got it.)
The Congress follows the Ecological Society conference which is also at
Albury.
The Campout and field trip (6-10 October) will be based at Cornishtown near
Chiltern; this historic town is just off the Hume Highway about 35km sw of
Albury/Wodonga, about halfway to Wangaratta. This wonderful area features
open box ironbark forest - we hope for Turquoise Parrots and Regent
Honeyeaters - and is convenient to other habitats. Camp activities will
include participating in the search for Regent Honeyeater nests.
The Congress brochure with booking information will be out with the June
Wingspan.
