Unfortunately it is too late to see it now, but people may be interested to know that a Northern Shoveler was seen at Lake McLarty (south of Perth) on 15 Feb. Despite searches by a number of people on different days since that date, it hasn't been seen again. (No, unfortunately I didn't see it, despite searching hard!). This bird was apparently a young male. It was amongst Australasian Shovelers. Details will be in the next (June) issue of Western Australian Bird Notes. Northern Shovelers in female or young plumage are very easily overlooked amongst Australasians, so may occur more often than currently believed.
