Tony
this is Pterodroma madeirae the other split from Soft-Plumaged along with
P. feae aka Cape Verde Island Petrel.
As for vulnerability/ rarity value Bermuda, Jamaica, Mascarene and Fiji
Petrels are probably in a worse state than this species. I suspect
Amsterdam Albatross numbers fewer than Zino's, they certainly wouldn't
match the number of players in an American Footbal game between them!!
Campbell Island and Mcquarie Island Wandering Albatrosses are also on the
verge of extinction, far worse even than Amsterdam!!!! For a real
disaster-story seabird how about Chinese Crested Tern?
