With regard to some recent messages about Peregrines, I have had a couple of
communications expressing concern about publicly identifying breeding sites.
Advice from Vic Hurley (of the Peregrine Falcons in Victoria Project) is
that the Staughton Vale site mentioned is very widely known, probably by
every pigeon racer and egg collector in the state, and therefore messages
about it to BIRDING-AUS so far are not a problem. With such a site it may
be advantageous to publicise it's existence among walkers, climbers and
general users of the area.

However, it would be undesirable for the locations of less well known sites
(of Peregrines, some other raptors, and any other birds vulnerable to
persecution or theft) to be identified. Vic would be interested to hear of
sites that are unknown to the Project, and he would also be happy to provide
information about the Project and about birding security considerations to
enquirers. You can call Vic on <>

Cheers, Hugo.
