whew, 2 weeks of birding really wears you out. so a trip report is
coming soon, but some highlights:
a boobook owl and 3 chicks at Wyperfield NP
a malleefowl working on its mound at Little Desert NP
Parrots parrots parrots! especially Turquoise parrots and Mallee
Ringnecks, Pink Cockatoos...
being woken up by Galahs everyday
Avoca floodway ducks, waders, tern, wonderful breeding spoonbills.
a good mammal list including Koala, Gray Kangaroos (whats the differemce
between Eastern and western?), Swamp wallaby, Brown Antechinus,
Brush-tailed possum (raiding my food), and unfortunately, rabbits, hares
and foxes.
a good reptile list including 2 types of goanna, shingleback lizards,
legless skinks, and other little unidentified skinks.
despite real work at I didn't see any Regent Honeyeaters at
Chiltern. But I did see a Gray-headed Babbler there and the Turquoise
Parrots on the 3 hour loop trail among the swarms of Fuscous and
Yellow-tufted Honeyaeters.
but I'm back to the snow in the northern hemisphere now, So I guess I'll
just have to spend my time drawing those birds I saw in the 35 degree
heat.
cheers,
Katie Bertsche
