Following the discussion on binoculars, Birding-Aus'ers around Sydney may be interested in a lecture at the The Australian Museum Society (TAMS) on Thursday 21 November at 6:30pm. "The Celebrated Double-glasses: Four Centuries of Binoculars" by Dr. Fred Watson, Anglo-Australian Observatory Fred will deal mostly with the history and evolution of binoculars. He is in charge of the U. K. Schmidt Telescope at the AAO, is a research astronomer, designer of new optical instruments and a historian of old ones. In case the subject sounds too dry, Fred always has amusing anecdotes about his subject. TAMS members $10, non-members $15 Venue: Australian Museum (William St entrance after 5pm) Bookings: phone TAMS on (02) 9320 6225 Fax (02) 9320 6051 write TAMS, 6 College St, Sydney NSW 2000 Cheers, Rob McNaught |
