WOLLONGONG, NSW PELAGIC TRIP REPORT
22nd September 1996

Conditions:
Once again an exceptional trip reaching a distance of 26 NM East of
Wollongong. A large selection of species with excellent opportunities
to photograph rarities in particular Antarctic/Salvins Prion and Royal
Albatross. Also of special note was the early return of Short-tailed
Shearwaters and even a single flesh-footed Shearwater and Arctic Skua.
As usual the Providence and Great winged Petrels were showing well. Also
seen distantly were 5 Sooty Terns and a White-chinned Petrel. Cetaceans
were also of value with a pod of up to 60 common dolphin and a
Hump-backed Whale.
Water temperature 17.5C once beyond the shelf.
Departed at 7.00 am and returned at 5.30 pm.
1 Metre swell.
15 knot winds from the South a.m to Westerly late p.m.
Reached 26 Nautical Miles E of Wollongong
