SYDNEY, NSW BOAT TRIP REPORT - 14th July 1996
Those on board (22): Phil Hansbro, Tony Palliser (leader), Peter Milburn,
John Reidy, Greville Reidy, Margaret Reidy, Richard Yank, Bill McLean, Chris
McGuigen, Jane and Marcus Kohler, Elizabeth and Bob Way, David Hair, Phillip
Griffin, Penny Drake-Brockman, Keith Brandwood, Mary Richmond, Alan Ford,
Karen Ross and Kevin Doyle. Thanks to all, for their support.
Departed at 7.10 am and returned at 2.30pm, 3 Metre swell, 20-30 knot WSW
winds, which were forecast to increase to 40 knots. The Westerly wind
content making conditions a little uncomfortable, particularly on the way
back. The day started with a successful detour to long reef to locate the
Giant Petrels that have been seen from land. We then proceeded to the shelf
despite the increasing choppy conditions, reaching a maximum distance of 26
Nautical miles from North Head. Results were typical for this time of year
when in strong westerlies are blowing. Highlights were the close views of
White-headed Petrel and
Great Skuas.
