Skuas

Following up the recent discussion of skuas, and specifically of 
Catharacta lonnbergi.

The correct spelling is lonnbergi, not loennbergi.

C. lonnbergi was treated as a good species in Sibley & Monroe 1990, and 
continues to be treated as such in Sibley's Birds of the World V1.5 in 
Thayer Birding Software.

In V1.5 Sibley comments under C.maccormicki "On the South Shetland Is, 
the breeding ranges of maccormicki and lonnbergi overlap and ca 10% of 
pairs are mixed or hybrids.

Under C.antarctica, Sibley comments: 'C. antarctica is often included in 
C.lonnbergi or C.skua, but is as genetically distinct as are the other 
southern Skuas.  C.a.hamiltoni, the population that breeds on Tristan da 
Cunha, is probably a distinct species.'
