I thought that the "Birds" volume of (I think it is) the Photographic Index of Australian Animals by the Australian Museum included explanations of the sci. names of all the species. I began compiling a list of scientific name meanings several years ago before giving up- its much easier to find the info from an already pubished book- but as a result I do have about ten pages of stuff and a greek dictionary if you, David, or whoever it is you were referring to is interested! One of my favourites by the by, is Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris, the Eastern spinebill (= narrow-nosed spine-bill). Harvey Harvey D.
