I had been on a quest to find a wifi solution that was "bare bones" in that it
didn't have any fancy enclosures so I could roll my own. Not too many
solutions like this and then I ran into the issue of needing the correct
drivers. Finally, the issue of configuration was not all that straightforward.
I wanted something that I didn't need access to the console to configure nor
did I want to have to telnet into it via ethernet to configure. Add to the all
the messy ad-hoc or DHCP or whatever configuration.
I wanted a simpler approach. Lately I've been working with an ethernet-wifi
bridge. The one I picked up at Fry's is from Amped Wireless (SR600EX). You
plug this into a regular PC or Mac and walk through the configuration web page
to set it up to see/repeat your existing wifi network. Then just plug it into
the TS board's ethernet port and voila it's on the network.
Sure, the device is big but it's intended for warehouses, campgrounds, etc.
It's got 600mW output. There are quite a few bridge products out there and for
my money it's a much simpler setup.
