I've used buildroot (http://buildroot.org/) for my project. It's an
awesome tool. I set it up to use Technologic's toolchain and it just
works. My filesystem on a 7390+4700 is about 130M. This includes all the
normal utilities; full X server; gdb server; FTP, HTTP, ssh and NFS
servers; and my application. For an embedded application I don't see any
downside. The box boots (with a splash that includes a progress bar) in
about 30 seconds. It takes a little longer if no DHCP server is present.
I'm a happy camper :-) .
