JC,

I have seen similar things happen with other pieces of equipment where I
work... not TS boards, but things like ethernet ports on Fanuc machine
controls, Dec or Lantronix terminal servers, etc. On a busy network an
ethernet port sees every packet flying by, whether it's intended for our
box or not. After a bazillion packets the thing shuts down. It's not
one of those things that is "supposed to happen" but it does, and you
aren't going to find it in any documentation of course. The thing which
was similar is that it happened after X days of uptime because that's
how long it takes to build up to the magic number of packets. Your
situation sounds similar.

In our case we had a firmware upgrade on the Fanuc machines, and we put
the other devices on a separate subnet, which cuts down on the local
traffic. We had TS7200 boxes on that same network and I don't think we
ever had a problem with those getting knocked off line. Maybe a
different kernel will help, I'm not sure. You could try firewall rules
blocking unwanted traffic, and although it seems like this wouldn't help
because the problem comes before that, it's worth a shot.

If you can't find a fix, I would create a cron job which runs once a day
and does the network restart. That way it never builds up to that magic
number. Yeah, It's the lazy man's way out, but if it works, it works.

Good luck,
Joe Bouchard
