To learn the SPI bus I used online resources and the ARM9 processor data book.
The data book so that I could understand how the SPI registers in the ARM9 were
used. I found having a logic analyzer handy was a real assist. without one it
would have been a lot harder. In writing drivers for accelerometers,
magnetometers and gryros I learned two things. The first is that no two
vendors had the same idea what SPI is and second, no off the shelf SPI library
will work across product lines. The example code given by Mark looks like a
good place to start.
I use the Intronix Logicport a great 32 channel logic analyzer and I highly
recommend it. I have no financial ties to Intronix.
