Since you have a working RedBoot, you're probably far from bricked. What does 'fis list' say? Perhaps there is a kernel there, but its name isn't vlinux. Try using fconfig to put in an appropriate boot script.
You have several ways to load a kernel image into memory and program it to flash, if the kernel is missing. RTFMs! Google is your friend. Rich
