I'm partially there with a 7390. So far this is what I have done:
1) compiled new kernel that has the USB storage drivers built-in. I'm
using a SATA solid state drive with a USB adaptor.
2) modified the initrd to pivot_root to the USB drive.
This is all working. I put a swap partition on the drive that appears to
solve the lack of real RAM problem as well.
I'd like to boot directly to the USB drive. The initrd makes some calls
to change settings in the hardware which I don't understand. One may
have to have a small initrd just to make these changes.
Normally after the initrd has done it's job all references to it
disappear and its memory footprint also disappears. Not so with the
initrd distributed by Technologic. If anyone has insight on how to avoid
these permanent references I'd really like to understand what they are.
The RAM drive that holds the initrd just sits there taking up space.
