Yeah, that's my plan B. I've actually written many programs that do
serial communications to various devices in whatever funky chat protocol
they use. The thing I've learned over the years is that the timing can
be tricky, so it takes half a day to get the tweaks just right. That's
probably what I will end up doing (I'd use ser2net and perl), but I was
thinking that running something within the O/S would be more positive.
