Hi All.
I have a TS-7800 system running some process monitoring hardware & software I
wrote which works really well. Hardware wise it is a TS-7800 system +
TS-SER1-Serial 4 Port PC/104 Peripheral + BBU etc.
I usually remotely ssh into the TS-7800 to retrieve required measurements on a
weekly basis. The system has been operational for about 18 months.
Unfortunately, every 12 weeks or so, the TS-7800 goes out to lunch. If I look
into what is happening via sys-console (ttyS0) via a process status command,
the system appears totally trashed. I noted last time that their where over 25
crontab process still in the scheduler list and my application(s) totally
removed. When I tried to initiate a reboot via the sys console it just executed
a crlf, thats it. It took a physical removal of the power to effect a system
reset/reboot correctly.
/var/log/message & /var/log/syslog showed only the time the system screwed
itself. No log (daemon, user, message, syslog, application) shows any indication of
what may be the problem. I have the logs running on max debug where possible,
and all services not used or required have been removed from the rc.d directory
to avoid unaccounted activity.
I have proved to myself that ssh access by hackers/etc. hasn't been a issue
because I placed a tighly closed router/firewall together with packet
inspection (hw system) proir to the TS-7800 system. The TS-7800 also has a
complete BBU and monitoring h/w which indicates any environmental problems.
/proc/utils show that the system has suffered some direct effect, as for
example all the normally loaded modules are either missing or not correctly
running. Say with some of the daemons, all this even though there are no
applicable log entries.
Has anyone suffered unexplainable long-term problems with TS-7800 running
2.6.21-ts #1 PREEMPT Fri Oct 10 10:20:42 MST 2008 armv5tejl GNU/Linux ?
I would appreciate any experienced feedback on what to try next - These sort of
problems are excellent in sending you crazy, and your client to selection
another brand of embedded pcb / O.S.
Would upgrading to Lenny/2.6.35++ be advisable or would it simply be adding a
new unknows to the problem bowl.
Cheers.
Grahame
