Personally, I'd recommend an external GSM comms unit such as the device
made by 'Hongdian', makes life easy, and debugging a whole lot easier.

I just spent 10 hours traveling today to install one.. oh, and the boss
was up there just 2 weeks ago to try to solve issues with an onboard
solution..

It might seem messy, but it'll save you sooo much grief long term.
