Look a the man page for mount. You've not specified the fs node where to mount the device, so it tried to pick it up for /etc/fstab, and didn't find it.

You have to tell it _where_ to mount it. Shortforming stuff by having
mount lookup source/destination in fstab makes for users that don't
understand this... Try this,

mount /dev/hda1 /mnt
