Think of minicom as a dumb terminal.  There needs to be a connection to a device that will echo what you type.

Hi every:

I need some help!

Recently, I bought a serial-to-usb converter cable so that I can connect my ts-7200 to my computer. Before actually power my board up, I did a test. I hook up the converter to my linux ubuntu PC. The user guide said using minicom as the communication tool. So, I followed all the instructions and set port to /dev/ttyUSB0, baud rate to 9600, 8 data bits, no parity check, 1 stop bit and no hardware or software control. (When I typed dmesg | tail. The system says "pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0". I assume system have found the hardware and assign it to ttyUSB0?)

However, after exiting from the minicom setup window and going to the main windows, it says I am in offline status and I wasn't able to type anything in the window. I only connected the USB end to my PC and leave the other end(serial) unconnected. Is it because of this that I get offline status? or I have wrong setups. How can I test whether the minicom is properly configured and ready for communication?

Thanks,

Yang
