Hello!
I'm having grief getting ALSA sound going on the TS-7500.
I've compiled ALSA sound and the snd-usb-audio driver as a module and installed
it onto my board.
I then did apt-get to install alsa-utils.
When I run 'aplay -l', it sees my external board:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: External [SB Live! 24-bit External], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
When I run 'aplay -L', it sees the devices on the board:
default:CARD=External
SB Live! 24-bit External, USB Audio
Default Audio Device
front:CARD=External,DEV=0
SB Live! 24-bit External, USB Audio

If I try 'aplay -D External', I get:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2144:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM External
aplay: main:564: audio open error: No such file or directory
On the other hand, if I try 'aplay -D default', I get
ALSA lib pcm_direct.c:975:(snd1_pcm_direct_initialize_slave) unable to install
hw params
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to initialize slave
aplay: main:564: audio open error: Broken pipe
If I try 'aplay -D hw:0,0', it hangs, as if it was trying to play its 8000 HZ
test tone, but no sound comes out.
I get identical results if I try with 'aplay -D plughw:0,0'.
If I try with 'aplay -D hw:0,0 -t wav chiquitita.wav', I get no audio output
and the following is printed:
Playing WAVE 'chiquitita.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz,
Stereo
aplay: set_params:979: Unable to install hw params:
ACCESS: RW_INTERLEAVED

SUBFORMAT: STD

FRAME_BITS: 32

PERIODS: (3 4)
BUFFER_TIME: 500000
BUFFER_SIZE: 22050
BUFFER_BYTES: 88200
TICK_TIME: 10000
I get the same if I try 'aplay -D plughw:0,0 -t wav chiquitita.wav'.
By no means am I any kind of ALSA guru. At this point, I'm not sure if there's
something wrong with the way the libraries, drivers, and utilities have been
installed, with the way I'm invoking them, or what.
At this point, I would like to know why is it 'unable to install hw params'?
Could it have something to do with the specific audio dongle (I've tried two
different ones, at this point, with similar results for both).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All the best!
Paul
