I am having the same issue. From what I can tell, a shared library gets
corrupted. I haven't figured out which one yet.
For example, the command "du -sh /boot" works BEFORE I do an "apt-get update"
and and "apt-get upgrade", but the du command stops working after I do the
update/upgrade. What's interesting to me, is that the type of error in the du
command generates the same as the error I get when the dpkg upgrade
re-configures (that some file \0301\0a cannot be accessed...).
