If you know *NIX then you're half way there :)  Basically a SD card in a 
TS board can be used just like a hard drive, so you need to partition 
and format it with a filesystem, then mount it to a directory.  Then you 
can just interact with it like you would any other file system either 
via command line or in C.  If you're comfortable with C then that's what 
I'd start writing in.  Unfortunately I don't know of any good books 
because I don't have any :)  I've picked up 90% of what I know through 
experience and Google.
