Inefficient alright - from 12v to 5v it would waste over 50% power, not to
mention heating the regulator. My project is a small solar powered boat
which will need to operate 24 hours a day. Low power consumption was
the primary reason I got this particular board.
Before that I had a OpenMoko - a ARM based phone running Linux. It was
*almost* good enough - but the power issues were annoying. That is if you
lose power you need to manually turn it on again. Not so good when your
boat is far our to sea :)

I know - I'm not ranting at you - quite the opposite - I am very grateful for
everyones help. I'm all for helping commercial entities with open source
software - if we can create a distro I would like Technologic to
supply it with their
gear rather than the outdated one.
Anyhow, thanks for the help - I'll give the above a go and get back with my
experiences.
