$40 is outrageous for a USB to serial adapter â unless it is Sunday afternoon and all the other stores are closed and you need it right awayâ

 

http://www.usbgear.com/USB-Serial.html - I order from these folks. Even if you order from somewhere else this is a place to comparison shop.

 

One of the reasons I shop at USBGear for serial adapters is that their web pages specifically list which USB-to-Serial chip is used in each adapter.Â
