I'd recommend it - valgrind will catch a lot of stack-bashing problems.  
Since you're encountering a fault in exiting the program, a stack 
bashing problem might be a good place to start checking.

Sorry - thought you were using a ep93xx based board.  I don't have a 
7800; so you're probably right here.

One thing to check is that your compiler toolchain is correct - are you 
using TS's supplied toolchain or have you rolled your own?
 
I get random seg faults using any toolchain _other_ than 3.4.6 on the 
TS7400 (ep9302).
