I think the point here is, install Linux of some sorts (Debian would be
good since that's what you want on the 7800) on a desktop and learn how
to do what you want to do there first then move to a embedded
environment. A newbie has two hurdles in what you're planning, learning
how to install and operate a OS and learning how to do it in a resource
constricted embedded environment.
