It sounds like you won't need this; the is high whenever data is being
sent, and is mainly for interfacing to RS-485/RS-422 chips that require
this.

Any ground on the board should work since they are all common. It looks
like all the DIO pins are pulled up, but pin 2 of the LCD header should
work, for example.

Connecting Tx -> Rx, Rx <- Tx, GND <-> GND should work.
