Do the boards have (4) 32M chips or (2) 64M chips?
You (or Matt) could stick a printk into parse_tag_mem32 (in
arch/arm/kernel/setup.c), and examine *all* of the ATAG_MEM entries
that are passed from RedBoot. (RedBoot is supposed to detect & pass
all of the RAM info to the kernel as it boots). Currently only the
ones that are ignored are printed. Looks like increasing NR_BANKS is
in order ...

You should definitely be able to get 2.6 running, but booting from CF
may be a little more involved. Can you try putting your rootfs on NFS
for debugging? A running 2.6 would be a little easier to experiment
with than a running 2.4. Eventually you can put 2.6 on your flash.
