Hi I am no expert. But Pls check two things.
1. The gcc you mention.. is it a cross compiler. (file a.out: check
the output of this command)
2. Try the -static option [gcc -static filename.c]

cross compilers can be found at the embeddedarm ftp site and at
http://freaknet.org/martin/crosstool/packages/
