Hi Alec --

I believe your problem is the dismal floating point performance of
this chip / SW system.  You can either look for a fixed point encoder
and player programs, or you can have a go at improving your floating
point performance.

By using EABI, I've seen improvements of 18x to 21x in FP benchmarks
and FP FFT tests, compared to OABI.  But it is not trivial to do with
these boards: you need a kernel that can run EABI binaries, and either
EABI libc or statically linked EABI test programs.

There are several earlier posts about this, so there should be more
info in the archives.
