[ts-7000] PPP Help

Hi,
   I am using Ts7300 Board,One thing I am not getting When on Linux
prompt when I am typing PPPD & Modem is connected to ttyAM0 port then
dial tone is coming on Modem.However in Inittab I am commenting 
respawn:sbin/getty -l ttyAM0 still its Locking the port ttyAM0.
And when I connecting to port ttyT8S0 and on prompt typing PPPD no
dial tone is on modem.
So How come By Default its Locking the Port ttyAM0.
