Hi All,
In the past I had generated a root image for my TS-7800 which I
installed with debian etch using debian's installer. Note that I am
not using the etch distribution from TS.
Last week I needed to get a system setup running lenny. I changed all
refs of etch to lenny in the /etc/apt/sources.list file and then did
the 'apt-get update' and 'apt-get dist-upgrade' thing.
All was well until apt-get tried to install the libuuid1 package. It
turned out that this was the first package which used 'chown' in it's
post-install script. There is a bug in TS kernels which causes oldabi
versions of chown/chgrp in lenny to be broken. Note that this only
affects arm ports, not armel from what info I could gather.
Doing a little research via google, I found this patch:
http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/git-commits-head/2008/4/1/1318264
I rebuilt the ts kernel from 2008-06-10 with the patch and redid the
update from the clean etch root image. Now I have a lenny running on
my TS-7800.
Hopefully, this information will save someone some time and effort
should they wish to go down the same path.
One of my future goals is to get lenny/armel running and possibly
getting the debian installer to do work for the install.
Cheers.
Ted Roth
