Hi Frank,

Thanks! There is 'x' on each root displayed with ls -al /. I solved this problem by just creating a 'home' directory under /. Now I can create new users without getting that warning...

But I have another problem...
When I am trying to delete a user, I used "deluser username". The output is: "User could not be removed from /etc/shadow". I went into /etc, listed all files and directories, there is no 'shadow' in it. So I created a directory named 'shadow' in /etc. After that, I tried "deluser username" again, the output changed into "User could not be removed from /etc/passwd". I 'cat'ed 'passwd', all the users are there except the one I was removing... But when I 'cat'ed 'group' in /etc, the user is still there...

Then I tried remove another user, "User could not be removed from /etc/shadow" came again...
And the result is still the same: this user is removed from /etc/passwd, but not from /etc/group.

Help!!

I didn't get any explicit 'permission' complaints either.  You might just want to doublecheck the permissions on the root directory.

    ls -al /

If you don't see the 'x' on the root folder, then permissions are the culprit.

Frank,

I think my problem is different.
I am just using the pre-installed OS on the Flash memory.
And I didn't got any complaint about permission.

Just a guess, but are you using a fairly recent image?  Your problem might be permissions on the root directory.

See my message

to see if it helps.

Hi everyone,

I just used "adduser newbie" to create a new user account in the TS-Linux OS.
I got the following response:
adduser: /home/newbie: No such file or directory
adduser: /home/newbie: No such file or directory
adduser: /home/newbie: No such file or directory
Changing password for newbie
Enter the new password (minimum of 5, maximum of 8 characters)
Please use a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers.
Enter new password:

But I checked the new user with "id newbie", then I got
uid=509(newbie) gid=509(newbie)

I don't know why it said No such file or directory but still created the user account.
I think what I should get when I was creating the user account is something like:
Adding user newbie...
Adding new group newbie...
...

Anyone can tell me what's the problem?

Thanks,
Yuping
