Dear friends,

I tested the performance of 7 different models of Compact Flash

Cards. I made 2 tests : First I used an USB reader connect to my pc

to untar my kernel 2.6.21 compressed image (180mb). Second I booted

the card on my TS7200 board and copied a 32mb file from one folder to

another.

First :

debian:~# ls -l /d3/b/img-prod-20-08-2008.tar.gz

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 181593562 2008-08-20 15:43 /d3/b/img-prod-20-

08-2008.tar.gz

mount /dev/sdf1 /mnt/sd

date > copiacf.log

cd /mnt/sd

tar zxvf /d3/b/img-prod-20-08-2008.tar.gz

cd

umount /mnt/sd

date >> copiacf.log

Second :

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 33554432 Aug 26 09:02 extraswap

date;cp extraswap /home;date

SUMMARY:

Dane-Elec 2gb             t1=14:16           t2=01:50

Sandisk 2gb                 t1=15:44           t2=02:53

AData 1gb                   t1=17:30           t2=03:12

Dane-Elec 1gb             t1=18:39           t2=03:34

Kingston 1gb               t1=16:59           t2=08:58

Sony 66x 2gb               t1=15:16           t2=29:49

Kingston 2gb               t1=22:07           t2=31:25

I tested and retested all cards getting almost same times. As you can

see the difference is huge between the cards. Dane-elec takes 1:50 to

copy 32mb and Kingston 2gb takes up to 31:25.

Does anyone know a faster CF card ?

We will need to work with TS7260 and SD cards. I already ordered a

Sandisk Ultra II 1gb and 2gb, Daneelec 1gb and 2gb, Kingston 2gb.

Does anyone recommend a fast SD card model ?

Regards,

Fabio.
