We really don't want anything happening on our TS-7800 system except the
program we added.

I'd prefer that the file system default to read only.

I think I want to disable cron, but I'm concerned that I might break
something critical and searching for this kind of answer is like trying
to find one particular water molecule in the ocean.

Has anyone written down their procedure for turning off all of the
unnecessary services (I pretty much only want to keep telnetd or sshd on
the final product), including cron (or at least all of the unnecessary
things cron does) and for making the filesystem read-only (and making
anything still running OK with that)?

I've only worked with a couple other embedded linux systems and one had
zero frills (and used pivotroot to run from a RAM drive) and the other
included a nice menu to turn off all the optional stuff - that's why I'm
not sure what is safe to disable, etc.
