so he still needs to cross compile if he wants to add cifs fs to the
kernel.
as to overblown, if you have a recent samba release lots of issues
have been fixed, it's a well maintained pkg. I'm not saying it's bad
I use it and find it very good. However, TSlinux is based on an
archaeic debian release so the chances are you can't install a recent
version.
all of which is why I suggested looking at whether he actually needs
it. I may make more sense to use ftp. He gave no details on why he
wants samba other than he wants to interface to a windows machine.
There may well be a simpler solution.
