I give it a "init=/bin/sh" ?

Please post commands not chat. Say exactly what you do.

If you mean you gave that as a command to redboot you need to read

the doc again.

you probably need to append this to however you are booting it now.

Since you dont post that either we can't guess.

at redboot prompt fconfig -l will tell you what you have . You can do

a one off boot without redefining fconfig .

Just read the doc.

Thank you for your sharp answer to my clumsily phrased question. It had just enough information to help me solve my problem.  The key was "append".

For others that might someday have the same problem with a TS-7260 and are reading the archives here goes.

Just after the + in the boot sequence issue a some control c's and you will get the redboot prompt

type in at the RedBoot> prompt

fis load vmlinux

you will get another Redboot prompt, thrn type:

exec -c "console=ttyAM0, 115200 root=/dev/mtdblock1 init=/bin/sh"

and it will boot and go right to the shell and then you can the passwd command to change the root password.

the above lines can be seen without the appended bit by typing "fconfig -l" at the redboot prompt
