Hi Jim

when you have zeros in the first case it means all zeros for the 4 bits and you left shift one time it is again zeros am i right
in the second case when pos = 1 if you left shift it is 2
and when you have pos = 2 if you left shift it becomes 4
and when you have pos = 3 if you left shift it becomes 6 is it not?
