In order to boot from a root fs image you need support for the
underlying device already loaded. If this is not in the kernel you
don't get off the ground and don't get a chance to insmod the driver.
You may look at using an initrd image that has that support.
This is one drawback with opting for a not quite open source system.
I thought recent kernels had circumvented the need for the
proprietory driver by providing OS kernel support for this device.
I may be wrong since I've not needed to try. (Closed source drivers
put me firmly off buying the SD option).
To me it's a bit like buying organic food. Something that is 95%
organic is .. non organic.
