Google "linux swap file" and the first hit is

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-8.0-Manual/custom-guide/s1-swap-adding.html

describing how to use the mkswap and swapon commands to add a swap
file. It looks credible, though I haven't tried it. In the past,
flash cards provided a limited number of write/erase cycles before
they failed, so I've avoided configuring swap.

        Good luck, Mel.
