Answering my own questions I was finally able to mount my thumdrive. The problem I had was that I did have the fat and vfat modules in my system but they where not being loaded and boot time. To load them I had to edit the /etc/modules file uncommenting/adding the lines fat vfat Then after restarting my system I mount the thumdrive with mount -t vfat /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 /mnt/ That did the trick.
