The last time i checked, there was a very easy to use omnivision sensor 
& specifically designed usb converter for i think the ov511 sensor. It's 
pretty damn small. You should be able to mount it anywhere. The linux 
drivers for this device have been in existance for a very long time - 
and it's USB :)

I believe the site was called www.electronics123.com, or something along 
those lines.

Sorry if that's not very accurate, but i'm lacking a 'real-time' network 
connection as i'm writing this email, and will have to first transport 
it over the sneaker-net before you receive it.
