If all you need to do is to view images, check out microwindows.  I
hacked up some code a while back to convert an old laptop to a picture
frame, showing JPEGs.  Lots smaller than Qt - about 300K - and faster
too.  The source tree has some examples for doing that.

If you need all the fluff Qt gives you, you need to look at how to
build Qt - ISTR that by default there are some depths enabled but I
can't remember which ones.
