[ts-7000] hwclock on 7400

Hi, I have a 7400 with the optional battery-backed rtc.  I'm running debian from the sdcard.

How do I set/read the rtc?  I have tried hwclock but get some sort of timeout error:

:root# hwclock -r
Timed out waiting for time change. __._,_.___
