[ts-7000] Serial Ports - TS7400

I'm trying to get ttyAM1 & ttyTS0 to talk to each other as a test on a 
TS-7400.  
I can get each port to talk to itself by connecting the TX-RX lines on 
the 40 pin header (pin 20 to pin 21 and pin 24 to pin 25).  
But when I cross connect them they don't communicate (pin 20 to pin 25 
and pin 21 to pin 24).  
Both ports are configured the same (baud, no flow control, etc.)
Any Ideas???
