I just had a problem with my debian linux install on the compactflash.
I was using apt-get to in stall some packages after everything was done
I seemed to find myself unable to login to they system. I have tryed
copying the passwd and the passwd- from a working system. I have tryed
modifying the login of the root user so that it has no password by
deleting it. it just doesn't seem to be letting me in. It says the
login is in-valid and I know I have the login name right. besides
cruptions to the passwd file is there any other reason that the login
would be doing this? Is it posible for me to login to a single user
mode and run a command to correct this problem? I can mount these to a
working system. can I do something from that to correct the problem?
I have since backup the compact flash and reinstalled a working
platform but I would really like to fix the problem and get back to
where I was. For the time I am doing a lot of rebuilding.
